Dear Members of the Asbury Park City Council,

I am writing as a deeply concerned member of the greater Asbury Park community to express my strong opposition to any plan or proposal that would result in the demolition of the historic Asbury Park Casino Building. This structure is far more than wood, steel, and concrete - it is a vital part of our city’s identity, an irreplaceable link to the history, creativity, and resilience that define Asbury Park.

The Casino, along with the adjacent arcade and the City’s other historic boardwalk landmarks, has long served as a cornerstone of our cultural and architectural heritage. To lose it would be to erase part of the story that continues to draw residents, artists, and visitors alike. People who cherish Asbury Park not only for its beaches and music but for its sense of place and historic continuity.

I urge the City Council to act with urgency and leadership in developing a comprehensive preservation strategy for the Casino and all other remaining historic structures along the waterfront, including the formation of an Asbury Park Historical Commission. This should include exploring every possible avenue - partnerships with preservation experts, grant funding, adaptive reuse opportunities, and state or federal historic designations - before any irreversible decisions are made. I urge you to partner with local advocates like Save Our Structures - Asbury Park to stay connected to the community’s ideals and vision for a bright future that respects and honors our past.

Now is the moment for Asbury Park to commit to protecting the integrity of its historic architecture and to ensure that future generations can experience and appreciate the landmarks that have shaped this city’s unique character. I respectfully call upon the Council to be a strong advocate for preservation, to reject demolition as an option, and to stand firmly on the side of safeguarding our shared heritage.

Thank you for your attention and for your ongoing service, both to the people of Asbury Park and visitors who are passionate about this unique city by the sea. I hope to see meaningful action taken soon to protect and restore the Casino and other historic treasures that define who we are.

Sincerely,
